Product Description
Our high-end audio Reference Silver RCA Cable reveals fine musical detail in the best recordings free of edge, grit, and glare. Overall character is neutral, open, and clear. The audiophile experiences musical nuances and dynamics in the original recording. Cryo 6-nines purity silver monocrystal (unplated) square wire: Continuous Directional Solidification process (similar to OCC) offers incredible detail and clarity. Square wire allows tighter winding geometries and improved conductor coupling compared to round wire. Twin conductors are spiraled around a longitudinal filament in sealed low dissipation Hyflon MFA air tubing yielding a compact core structure. Inconel chromium alloy cable sheath: Conventional audio cable construction employs plastic braid coverings or PVC jackets that impart a sonic coloration to the signal (loss of ultimate clarity). Our exclusive non-magnetic Inconel chromium alloy cable sheath eliminates lossy dielectric materials and effectively blocks electromagnetic fields. The shield is independent of the signal conductors, protects the cable structure, and is flexible.Cabledyne Reference Silver RCA Cables - 2.0 Meter Pair Review
The interconnects arrived with nice packaging and beautiful fit and finish. I placed them in the shop system for over 100 hours of burn in.They started out a little tame and could tell they had some opening up to do, so I let them play.
Once the burn in was complete I placed them in the main system and played them for a couple days before establishing a basis for review. They never really changed once placed in the main system so I started taking notes...
I jotted down overall performance thoughts that popped in my head while listening. Straight from my page:
Tight lock on images
Absolutely neutral
Quiet background
Taller soundstage
Nicely balanced and detailed
Very smooth sounding and a more upfront performance are consistent
Main system:
Power from API Power Wedge Ultra 116, feeding entire system
Joseph Audio Perspective Speakers
NOS Valves VRD Mono Amplifiers
Bel Canto DAC3.5VB MKII DAC/Pre
Bel Canto CD3T Transport
Pure I20 Ipod Dock
All transports reclocked with Empirical Audio Synchro Mesh Reclocker
The Cabledyne 1.5 meter Silver Reference RCA Interconnect Cables are located between the DAC and amps. They are the only analog interconnects in my system.
Music used for evaluation:
Johnny Lang "Wander This World"
I had to play the entire album but I'll share thoughts on one song. Listening to the song "I Am" gives a nice heart beat rhythm that immediately gets the foot tapping. I could literally see Johnny flailing wildly around the microphone, passionately delivering his message.
The drum set positioned perfectly and symbols were visually waving. The guitar played with a nice mix of clean and distortion. The back ground ladies lit up in precise location. Nothing to flaw here. The cabledyne's rocked the house perfectly and displayed the source for all that it was.
Doug McLeod "Brand New Eyes"
Playing the title track, this recording, with my system, is amazing. The venue is large and the guitar sounds great. The reverb of Doug's voice is just cool. The recording is simple, but very well done. I noticed more information with the Cabledyne's in place, and Doug seemed taller. Just magnificent.
Romain Collin "The Calling"
This is a somewhat dark sounding song that has a wonderful sounding piano, with an upright bass thrown in. I could see Romain's fingers plucking every key, panning side to side. The bass was locked in location and sounded awesome. I got more emotion from this recording than I remembered before.
Cold Play "Clocks"
Just a deeply involving tune that sounds wonderful. Spatial cues aplenty revealing the size of the venue. Beautiful sounding piano (although simple) that lights up the room. I felt nothing was missing and was connected throughout the whole tune.
Van Morrison "Into the Mystic"
Wide, deep, and extremely focused. Van was in the room with me and soo tightly locked dead center, it was mesmerizing. What a wonderful sounding recording.
Liquid Soul "Equinox"
Trumpets never sounded better. No hardness or piercing. Nice track with some electronic flare, very rhythmic jazz, and slightly bluesy. Lots going on and I was able to hear it all. When the trumpets fire up, you can immediately see them. Fun!
Mazzy Star "Fade Into You"
Wonderful acoustic guitar and very spatial sounding. Mazzy was about 10' behind the speakers in an extremely large and tall venue. Very seductive and emotional song that has little going on, but oh so nicely done. I like her with just a touch more warmth, but she absolutely sounded real. I visualized her sitting on a bar stool playing the guitar. So good.
Sara K. "Miles Away"
Sara was more than 15' behind the speakers in a large venue. HUGE soundstage. So light, and sweet, and powerful... She just oozes talent. Locked dead center and you just can't help but listen to what she is singing. The upright bass was revealed full size and never out of place.
Foo Fighters "Stranger Things Have Happened"
Awesome song. Lead singer, one back-up singer, and 2 guitars. That's it. This recording sounds like it was done in a garage ( I think it actually was). I could make out the little amps sitting on the floor and the guitars sounded awesome. Very bright and lively sounding. Just the way it was intended to sound.
My only gripes:
The Cabledynes are very picky about being placed next to power cables. I really had to do some trick routing to get all the hum out of the tweeters, but I did.
The connectors are ok, but too tight on my amps connectors. They have a rigid collar, and this makes them un-forgiving of some female RCA connectors.
Summing it up:
These cables were not what I expected from silver cables. Although they are different (not better or worse) sounding than my Grover Huffman ZX copper/silver hybrid cables, they never sounded wrong or bright in any way.
It was as if I were slightly closer to the stage with all the music I listened to, and could see a little farther into the performance. All this with very nice separation of artists that were realistically focused.
They allowed all the information to come through in a nice controlled manner, with impeccable delineation. Each artist tightly locked and anchored in position, never getting mixed into the mix, or floating around.
Nice sparkling highs, neutral and smooth mids, tight focused bass, and very transparent.
Want a warm sounding cable? The Cabledyne Silver Reference are not for you....
Want a cable that get's closer to real, reveals all, with a smooth 3D midrange? Well, I would suggest giving the Silver Reference a try.. They hide nothing without being bright. That is high praise and evidence that they actually listened to and tuned these cables. Very pleased to have them here.
Thanks to Cabledyne and Audio Karma for allowing me to listen to and review these wonderful and affordable cables!
