Topping TP10 Mark 4 Class T Digital Audio Amplifier (TA2024) Review
I bought one of these little integrated amplifiers based on the well-known TA2024 chipset to use with my desktop speakers. I use sound professionally and use flat-response, closed headphones for work. However, I really wanted to have a nice and clean sound from my desktop speakers. I was seduced by the hype of a popular brand of powered reference monitors, bought a pair for about $300 and wasn't happy with the sound. I ended up returning the speakers. I was back to searching for an integrated amplifier to use with my existing JBL speakers and a Mackie mixing board. I was looking for something inexpensive, as speakers are not really critical for my work. I'd read reviews of the TA2024-based amps and was rather skeptical. Still, for such a low price (they range between $50 and $100), I thought I'd give it a try.Wow! What a nice surprise this turned out to be. The sound is extremely clean. There's more than enough power for my needs. My favorite JBLs have been brought back to life. The amp sounds very linear, which is exactly what I was looking for. However, this type of sound does not necessarily have a lot of character, so audiophiles will most likely opt for a different solution.
Mechanically, the unit is very good. It's solid enough for my needs. The volume knob is very smooth and allows minute level adjustments. Perfect. The unit does not have a headphone input, but I don't need it as I use my Mackie board with my headphones.
The only thing I wish the unit had is some sort of desktop mounting option. Right now, it just sits on the desktop, and seems a bit precarious, as if it could slide off the edge of my desk a bit too easily. I am going to have to think of a solution.
