Exceptional smooth base that handles all source material without headroom issues. Fit and finish/build quality top notch. Many might consider the 2k spent on a sub for affluent buyers or esoteric audio nuts. Well if that is the category you fit into then it is a must buy. If on the other hand you are an average middle class schmuck that really cares about having excellent sound for music and film, but really cant justify the price do it anyway. Tell yourself that you will skip Starbucks and lunches out for a year to compensate the price difference of what you would rather pay. My wife wanted to kill me when I purchased this thing on the first week it was available from SVS. She still complains from time to time but every time the stereo comes on and the sub purrs to life, I sit in awe how great it is, and reflect how I would have felt if instead of the SVS I instead had purchased a marginal sub for under a grand and spent all of my days repositioning it, tweaking settings etc to make that turd look like a diamond on certain soundtracks. When I first set it up I read the manual to make sure the settings were as I wanted it, turned it on listened to a few songs and put the manual and box in storage to never be seen again. The only tweaking I have done since purchase is with a dust rag. Does this have Porsche pricing for a sub? Yes it does, but you will never craigslist it to try to get a better one so that part of your audiophile obsession is done. If this sub was smashed by an asteroid and SVS jacked up the price an additional grand I would complain about them trying to charge more money, and how they are greedy jerks as I filled out my credit card info on the web site to purchase another one as quickly as possible.
