The Avantree Bluetooth receiver is a very convenient way to interface your stereo with your smartphone or other Bluetooth music streaming device. For my installation, I already had a headphone jack adapter to plug my iPod in, but it was very inconvenient since you have to get up to change the music. So it was sitting there unused now that I don't use my iPod anymore (Spotify, Pandora, etc. are much more convenient, you probably know what I mean). This device plugs right into that adapter cable and lets me stream music from my couch without getting up. All that's needed to get ready to stream is to turn on your receiver, set it to the right input, and adjust the volume; then connect to the Avantree (once you're paired you can just pick it off your phone's Bluetooth menu).

Set-up is convenient, with one caveat. You can only establish a new pairing within a minute or two of powering the device up. So, if like me you get everything all connected and powered up and tucked away, then try to pair with your phone, you'll have to go back in there to unplug it and plug it back in. So take my advice, plug it in, pair it, then install it.

Some reviewers are reporting limited range. I can use this device to stream music from my couch even though the Avantree is behind my radio receiver. So range isn't the issue. Here's the thing though. Every other Bluetooth streaming device I use, including a Bose speaker and my car, have a robust buffer so that if the streaming is interrupted for a short period of time while the phone is doing something else, the music doesn't get cut out. This one is not like that. If you try to use your phone while it's streaming, most of the time the music will stutter. So it would seem like it's at its range limit but it's not. The solution is to not fiddle with your phone, and you'll see that even though you didn't bring it any closer to the Avantree, it will go back to streaming just fine. It would be nice if this issue were to be fixed in a later iteration.
