Panasonic DMP-BD79 Blu-ray Player Review
I got probably the first unit that Amazon got in stock. Put it in today and its super fast. Menu system is very easy to use and I have always been a fan of Panasonic blu-ray players.I will say the Firmware update is a bit scary if you use the CD firmware update. It does not tell you much of anything. When you insert the disc both the green and the red light flash on the player like something is wrong. Also nothing is displayed on screen that anything is happening. After about 10 mins something finally started showing up on the screen. Another 5 mins later it looked like it had locked up so I just left it.
When the update is done, the tray will open on its own. So if you are using the manual firmware CD up, just insert the disc with the player on and walk away. Come back 20 mins later and the cd tray should be open which means it is done. If you watch it, it will worry you that something is wrong.
I am also not a big fan when use the chapter skip button, it shows what chapter you are on with a picture of the chapter on the screen for about 10 secs. There seems to be no way to turn this feature off and just allow you to hit the chapter skip button without a picture menu. ANNOYING..
Overall its a 10 out of 10 unit...
I love it...
