New 3 RCA Composite S-video R/L Audio to HDMI Converter Review

After hooking up my old standard-def consoles to two different HD televisions (LCD and plasma), it became apparent that the built-in scaling and deinterlacing that these televisions performed was pretty poor. And neither had S-video input. This device solved that problem.

Pros: It works, produces a nicely scaled 720p HDMI signal from component and S-video inputs. The scaling/deinterlacing it performs is noticeably better than the built-in scaling on both televisions I tested.

Cons: The output is always "on" whether or not the connected devices are on. So if you have an auto-switching HDMI switch, you'll want to give this converter lowest priority. Also, the deinterlacing is good but not perfect, and you can still see the interlacing lines when very fast motion is taking place on the screen.

Overall, it did exactly what I needed, and did it well.
