Sewell Hammerhead VGA to HDMI Converter, 1080p Review

After trying another VGA to HDMI converter that was $15 less but didn't work as advertised, I returned it to Amazon and ordered the Sewell Hammerhead. It arrived just a couple of days later, in brand new condition. I was surprised at the quality of the packaging - it was very nice! Judging by the photos on Amazon, you might expect the Hammerhead to be a lightweight plastic part - but it's actually pretty solid with great build quality. Sewell includes a short VGA extender cable (I didn't need it) and a micro USB cable for powering via USB port. It's all presented very well in a sturdy, protective box with nice graphics, almost like something you would expect to house a quality watch. I plugged the Hammerhead into my Media PC laptop's VGA output connector and then ran an HDMI cable to the input on my HDTV. Windows 7 recognized the Hammerhead as a Sony HDTV and offered many resolutions, from 640 x 480 all the way up to 1920 x 1200. I chose 1920 x 1080 (the TV's native resolution) and immediately enjoyed a full screen, HD display from my laptop. Colors, fonts and images were all extremely sharp, as if looking at the laptop's built-in display. I played a few videos and there was no appreciable lag or other performance issues. All in all, I'm very happy with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone looking to connect a VGA output from their computer to their HDTV.
