I kept this player because I needed the ability to play VCD and SVCD (including XSVCD). This is one of the few players that can do this.However, do not be fooled. The battery does not last remotely 3 hours (maybe for a CD but not for DVD). Maximum battery: 2 hours 15 minutes, not 'over 3 hours.'Good enough picture, and not too large a unit. Note that you cannot play and recharge the battery at the same time, and that the battery connects to the player via a cable and covers up the video ins and outs when attached. Dared VP-845 tube SET Integrated amplifier Review

I own this amplifier for about a year now.
It's very heavy. Watch your back.
It also runs VERY hot (even not talking about the tube).
After a few hours of operation, the coper plates and knobs can easily reach over 45 C.
It also smells hot.
If you have kids or pets, be very careful (this is true for all 845 based amplifier).
Now, what about the sound?
Out of the box, the unit sounds good but not more than good.
A burn-in time of a week stabilises the performances.
However, the stock tubes are clearly not revealing the potential of the amplifier.
I did the following changes:
- Chinese 12AX7 has been replaced by a 12AX7LPS from SOVTEK. I have tried many models and the LPS is the one that please me most in the new production.
- Shuguang 6SN7 has been replaced by a PHILIPS NOS 6SN7. The new EH 6SN7 are also very usable.
- Shuguang 845 has been replaced by Shuguang 845B (I insist on the B). The M (metal) version is not suitable and also does not sound good.
Feel free to experiment with other tubes / brands.

With these changes (and some burn-in time), the amplifier has reached another class of excellence.
The sound stage is very wide and deep. Very stable also.
No sibilance in the voices. No harsh sound, as one could expect but not overly warm. Pretty neutral, actually.
It also reveals many details in the recordings.
Deep, clean basses and superb trebles.
You can enjoy hours of listening without any fatigue.

Some technical comments:
The output power on 8 ohms load can reach 15Wrms (THD<1.4%, mainly H2). Above that, a solid compression appears and the THD rise quite fast with higher order harmonics appearing.
However, on a pair of home made speakers with an efficiency of 91dBSPL, 2 x 15Wrms is much more than necessary.
Another little annoying point: the 845 filament supply is rectified with "only" 10000uF filtering.
This is not the proper way to feed a 845 in a SET. If you listen to the speakers (mainly the tweeter), you can hear (at a very low level) the switching noise of the diode bridge.
A filament chock and additional filtering (15000uF min) would be necessary to tame this noise (measured to be 2mVrms).
On my 91 dBSPL speakers, this is clearly not an audible issue.
But on a 100dB+ system, it may become a problem.
Direct AC feed of the 845 could be much preferable in such high efficiency system.
Be EXTREMELY careful if you open the beast. The B+ voltage reaches 920V, enough to kill a bull !!!
This amplifier has still room for improvement. However, a DIY tweak is relatively difficult because there is not so much room left inside.

Despite these little technical drawbacks, the amplifier is very enjoyable and, I think, is really worse trying.

RCA RT2360 300-Watt Home Theater System Review

I've had my system for about a year now. It's a good system for the price I bought it at, but there are definate down falls to it. Any movie I watch I pray for it to come in DTS. That's because when watching movies in Dobly Digital, speach from the center channel can't be heard clearly. I have to almost max the volume and turn all other channels down to hear. The only other fall back is the non-powered sub, but you can buy an inexpensive powered sub and plug into the powered sub port on the receiver. All in all I'd recogmend this system to someone just starting out in their Home Theater ventures.

I originally bought these to be used as rear surrounds in a 7.1 system. 7.1 just didn't do it for me though. (Likely because my QS8 surrounds do such a good job of enveloping me in sound, I had no need for additional surrounds!)

Anyway...I ended up taking them down from the back of my room, and putting them in my game room. I've got them hooked up to my computer and use them for gaming, and playing back my MP3's while at my desk. Wow. For use as nearfield monitors, these are terrific! Clarity, detail like you won't believe. If you need or want bass, you'll need a subwoofer, but there's not a small bookshelf speaker out there that that's not true of.

Perfect for nearfield listening or a small room mated with a sub. Axiom has another winner.

The Costomer service at Amazon.com was the best Ive ever seen. The first unit that was sent to me had a problem with the screen(which should be bigger, it was innefective at this size). The LCD display would not light correctly on one side of the screen, so I sent an email to Amazon.com's costomer service center, and right away(within the next day) I revieved and answer. They said it would be fine, to just send them the deffective player, and they would send out a new one(checked over personally by them) ASAP. And I guess they did, because the new item arrived within the next week. Orrigionally I wasnt supposed to recieve the player for another two weeks, so all in all, I recieved the second, working one, before it was predicted that I would get the first one. Sony DAVS500 Home Theater System Review

This is great sounding system. If you have a large living room installation, it isn't right for you, however. Get the next system up from Sony with the powered sub-woofer. That said, if you are going to be using this system in an average size den or entertainment room (like, say 12'x15' or 15'x15') or bedroom, it is perfect!The system has worked flawlessly for me. Installation was the easiest I have ever done, thanks to Sony's making all connections color-coded. The remote is easy to use and the DVD player has presented no problems. I had a speaker that didn't sound right to me, I call Sony Support, and they sent me a replacement speaker and a call tag for the suspect one, all by next day air!!
