Audiovox Video Distribution Amplifier (VA100) Review

This device requires a 12 VDC power source to run and does not come equipped with a working one! It is packaged with a cable with one end that fits into the device and the other end is open wire! I looked and looked on this site and I cannot find ONE PLACE where it says anything about this - or even not coming with a power source. Luckily this is not that big of a deal as you can use any old 12 Volt power supply, but it is definitely irritating that this device requires a part with which it is not supplied. Radio Shack has one for cheaper and it comes with a power source.

It appears as though the device was meant to be used in an SUV or something (for TV monitors), but again it doesn't mention this in the ad.

Otherwise, works great.

AUD020003000103 - Audyssey Lower East Side Media Speakers Review

I wanted to be able to play music in my kitchen wirelessly via apple airplay from my Mac or my iPhone, and I wanted the sound to be good and as full-bodied as possible. I spent a lot of time combing the market for the perfect setup for my needs. I also wanted the sound to be somewhat spacious, so I decided against going with the single piece speaker boxes that are available on the market because they really can't do a very good job of spreading the sound out like a true stereophonic setup can. I came close to buying one of two digital input T-amp based systems I was looking at, but opted for this Audyssey instead because the amp was built right into the speaker, which allows for slightly less cable clutter. I was intrigued most by this Audyseey system because it was compact (so it won't take up much counter space), and most of all, it allowed for a direct optical digital input from my Apple Airport Express to the speakers. It's important to me to be able to send the digital audio feed directly from the Airport to the DAC/amplifier combo because it bypasses the analog output of the Airport Express which removes a step in the chain that usually leaves lots of room for sound quality degradation to occur. I have this system set up with each speaker on the counter on either side of my freestanding range. When I'm cooking, it's a pleasure to hear clear, loud sound with surprisingly full midrange and bass. I've managed to find a small amount of space between the back wall and the upper control panel for the freestanding range where I can hide a surge protector, wires, AC adapter for the Audyssey, and the Airport Express, so it's not cluttered looking at all. I would recommend that you plan to locate the setup behind something that will hide the wires and AC adapter too because if not, it might end up looking a little clutter with the cables and speaker wire. This system really does sound great for the size and price. It's an extra bonus that the built in speaker stands point the speakers in a slightly upward position so that the sound is projected up toward where your ear level usually is. Really a smart design from Audyssey, and it's a real pleasure to listen to tunes on my airplay wireless setup from my Mac or iPhone and the Airport Express. Thanks to Apple and Audyssey, I have an elegant 21st century solution to the problem I once had of playing great sounding music in my kitchen.

I purchased the 36" white version recently for a price of $59.99 and I am pleased with the purchase. Construction was sound, unlike many of the glass TV stands that are popular now this one has very sturdy construction and can easily support my giant Jurassic 200lb Sony Trinitron CRT Television. This was by far the cheapest TV stand I could find that could support more than 60lbs.

As for quality of construction, assembly took me a very leisurely 20min. There were no scuffs or scratches on the materials that arrived.

Magnussen Julian B1820-36 Wood Media Chest Review

Chest arrived quickly and looks very nice. Only complaint was seeing that the backer board on the cabinet had been damaged (cracked) and had been repaired at some point. The repair was somewhat sloppy but since the cabinet is up against the wall, no one can see it. Price was well worth it. Amazon's price was almost $200. less than the closest competitors...NICE!

The item looks great and has a plethora of home server features, but for this pricetag you would expect it to work flawlessly and not be missing some very important features. It does not decode nor transmit DTS-HD and DDHD audio signals which is a big negative. Another big negative is that it is not yet supporting BD-RE authored blu ray discs which is what I have been making for my home videos. As the previous user mentioned, disc loading is awefully slow and can be embarrassing if you are trying to show it off to friends. Hopefully future firmware updates can address these issues.

Very good, knobs are solid and work smoothly. The tuner knob is excellent, dials in very well. Speaker is excellent. The radio is built very solid. This radio is TOUGH!!!

This is A minor detail but if they wanted to make this radio any better they could put A Bass to Treble adjust on it.

Cruddy Review

I had never heard of Lynda Barry before getting a tip about this book from another Amazon reader. For some reason I was expecting something along the lines of Phoebe Gloeckner's "Diary of a Teenage Girl"...graphic novel about girl coming of age in the 70's, etc.

But this is no memoir--at least, I hope not! It isn't really even a graphic novel in the traditional sense; Barry's crude paintings (done with charcoal? paint? hard to tell) interspersed throughout the narrative evoke the dark and ugly mood of the book perfectly, but they're miles away from comic-book realism.

This is a wildly-imaginative, horrifying book about Roberta Rohbeson, the story itself made even more surreal by the copious amounts of drugs and alcohol she as the narrator consumes, both as an 11 and 16 year old.

Roberta is tormented and abused at the hands of her nomadic father, who takes her on a roadtrip littered with corpses and who calls her Clyde and introduces her as a mute mongoloid. This is a girl who considers herself so ugly as a result of his violence, she becomes uncomfortable when people even glance her way. She's pitiable in the most obvious sense, but she's also smart and tough--and carries a knife named "Little Debbie" to protect her from the evil she (rightly) expects to encounter at every turn.

There's shenanigans and drug-and-alcohol induced exploits, of course, which drew comparisons to "Fear and Loathing" on the jacket cover, if I remember correctly. But it's not a one-trick pony, as Barry's character development skills are stunning. There's Roberta herself, her dim-witted and hysterical sidekick Vicky Talluso, the Father (referred to only as such), an erstwhile druggie hookup named Turtle, the flabby abusive hillbilly bartender Pammy, and many more. I can't make this stuff up, but Lynda Barry can.

Read it!!! Read it in the dark before you fall asleep. Read it when you're feeling sad. Read it in the most incongruous of settings--in the park, at the beach, on a sunny day. Despite its ugliness, it will make you smile.
