Jacket: black/green/gray braid Rocket 88 incorporates AudioQuest's patented Dielectric-Bias System (DBS) and replaces Long-Grain Copper with Perfect-Surface Copper+. DBS offers a lower noise-floor, so you can hear deeper into the nuances of your favorite music. At the same time the addition of more PSC+ offers a smoother, more relaxed, and natural sonic timbre and texture. SOLID PERFECT-SURFACE COPPER/PERFECT-SURFACE COPPER+ (PSC/PSC+) CONDUCTORS: Rocket 88 uses a carefully finessed and optimized combination of Perfect-Surface Copper and extremely high-purity Perfect-Surface Copper+. The astonishingly smooth and pure combination of PSC+ and PSC significantly eliminates harshness and greatly increases clarity. Rocket 88's conductor mix is dominated by PSC+. CARBON-BASED NOISE-DISSIPATION (INSULATION): The four negative conductors in Rocket 88 are insulated with partially conductive Carbon-Loaded Polyethylene. This remarkable material damps radio-frequency from being fed back into the amplifier. Rocket 88 uses Foamed-Polyethylene Insulation on its positive conductors. DIELECTRIC-BIAS SYSTEM (DBS, US Pat #s 7,126,055 & 7,872,195 B1): All insulation slows down the signal on the conductor inside. When insulation is unbiased, it slows down parts of the signal differently, a big problem for very time-sensitive multi-octave audio. AudioQuest's DBS creates a strong, stable electrostatic field which saturates and polarizes (organizes) the molecules of the insulation. So, I am a bit tired of reading these nonsense reviews by someone who obviously doesnt care to know the difference. Now I did not buy mine through Amazon but rather Magnolia HiFi. I have been a bit of a music lover for most of my life and have had decent systems over the years. I have always used "good" spools of speaker wire never bigger than 16AWG. My current system is made up of Bowers & Wilkins 685's Marantz PM8004 integrated amp and a Marantz CD6004, they are connected via AQ King Cobra currently "about to receive my AQ Columbia's"!!!!. Power is through Panamax and PC's are Audioquest NRG4 all the way around. The speaker cable rabbit hole started with the AudioQuest Type 4 Speaker cables with pre-attached banana connectors 15-foot pair which are an excellent place to start and possibly stay with! Very neutral and musical but nothing to grab my attention past the OMG this is incredible! My speakers allowed for a bi-wire and thats what I did, my rep Brandt Luther at Magnolia in Richfield MN, thought I should try the swap and I found a cable "Rocket 33" that opened the top of my speakers and commanded attention to the detail of the lows. Being able to hear the instrument that is making the sound with a realism and texture, guitars falling off sound like they are in the room! Soundstage is exactly what it is...you dont notice the speaker as much as you notice where each instrument and voice is coming from. Then a couple of weeks ago, right at my limit for exchange "60 day Premier Silver" I went back in and asked for the 88's. Based on what I had gathered on research the upgrade in copper purity plus the inclusion of the DBS system which allows for me to power up and have next to no warm up time to full detail. It works, the sound is so natural I would describe it as being unstressed like an almost perfect transfer of what happened in the studio. The darkness or lack of noise in the background is truly astonishing which I believe is partly due to the DBS system. I have roomates, who may go to bed and I am able to listen quietly with astonish detail, because I do not hear anything whatsoever in the background but detailed instruments and voice. Music references were Peter Gabriel's "I Grieve" from the City of Angels soundtrack. the instruments sound to be in a perfect orientation in a small venue, but it is Peters voice about thirty or seconds in that tells you "You chose the right cable" The tone, texture, dimensionality, and airiness all with that pitch black background brings the music to palpable experience that I had never experienced before!
