Panasonic SC-AK300 Compact Stereo System (Silver) Review

My husband and I looked and listened to just about every Shelf Sized Stereo system on the market at more then 4 stores. This one, by far, is the best. We tried them all out with Jazz, Reggae, Classical and Pop CD's- This system above all the others, has the sharpest, cleanest, clearest sound. None of these systems let you adjust the bass or treble, they all have preset settings such as extra bass, clear, pop, jazz and a rich sound option. This was the only unit in where all the optional settings sounded wonderful. We like Clear the best with the Super Sound turned off, but any EQ setting you choose will sound equally fantastic! We bought our unit in Black at Target. Also the sound is simply amazing! All the instruments come through so clear and this was the only system with sharp clean voices. All the others sounded staticy with the voices through the tweeters. It has just the right amount of bass, whereas most of the other systems (Phillips and Sony in particular) went over board on the bass resulting in distorted sound.
The FM reception is very clear as well. I highly recommend this system to anyone looking for the best sound at a remarkable price. I suggest you go out and listen to as many systems as you can with several CD's and see and hear for yourself! This is a very early Sharp Amp. It is from the early 90's. It is 240 Maximum watts with 1 front channel and 1 surround sound input. Both are 120 watts so it is nothing like the 9800's with its 350 watts and 2 channels at 150 each(an A and a B channel) plus the surround sound input. IN OTHER WORD this model only allow 2 front speakers and 2 back speakers compared to the later models that allow 4 front speakers and 2 back speakers. You have a headphone jack but you have no control over the headphone jack(once a headphone jack is plugged in, all the sound goes to the headphones) In the later models the channels and headphones are all independent, allowing for each to be turned on and off independently. I have used the 9800 comparison only because if a person does a search for this model, there is very little information about its specs and one should be aware that the specs that you find online for the 9800, 9850 and 9860 are not the same as this model. KEEPING THIS IN MIND this amp will power most Sharp integrated system. 9500's 9600's 9700's and 9800's

Cougar Tonearm Cable With 48V Dbs (1.5M) Review

I purchased this cable after doing some research online and coming up with good reviews of the Wildcat which is just below this cable in AQ's lineup. I tend to go overboard and I have a ton of other Audioquest cables, most with DBS, so I went a step above the Wildcat to the Cougar. I noticed that the cheap connection that came with my 37 year old Yamaha YP-800 was frayed and corroded after years of disuse. The results of my upgrades were beyond anything I could have imagined. The phono stage in my Yamaha A-S2000 has never sounded so musical and warm--even through my very neutral and revealing ATC SCM40's. I tested the cable with an Ortofon 2M Bronze I usually use with this amp and a Rega table (RB300 with attached cable). I had truly written off the built-in phono in my amp and planned on an upgrade soon. After using this cable for a week, I have no plans to change any part of my system in the near term.

I play guitar in a cover/original band playing shows around the Chicago area. We have used Mackie 450v2 powered monitors with a Mackie 1501 powered sub. We added the Yamaha sub and now pole mount the mains on the two subs. Our sound has never been better. The Yamaha sub is very tight and clear. We use Moog bass pedals with every other instument miked and the result is exactally as you would want. When our Mackie 1501 breaks down, it is 10 years old, another Yamaha dxs15 will take its place. Very compact and solid, these Yamaha dxs15 subs are great!

When my Adcom GFA-545 died, I was shocked to see the prices for the new Adcom amps. I decided to take a chance on the AMP3 and am very satisfied with the sound and apparent quality of the AMP3. JENSEN JP-S8 8" Powered Subwoofer Review

I needed a compact subwoofer for my bedroom to replace the 12" Cerwin Vega sub to save some space. I bought this subwoofer two months ago mainly because it's too cheap (under $50 shipped) and I told myself that at this price, if it didn't sound good, I could give it to a relative or a friend. When the subwoofer came, I took it out of the box and surprisingly, it looked much better in real life than in the picture. I mean, despite its $49 price tag, this is a solid built subwoofer that has a very attractive look comparable to the subs costing hundreds more. It is quite heavy (about 20-lbs) regardless of its small size (13x12x12.5"). Setting up is very simple. I only needed to run a subwoofer cable from the sub out on the receiver to the RCA input on the subwoofer. This JPS8 has been with me for about 2 months now so I've had plenty of time to "test" it with my music CDs and DVD movies. Even though it couldn't shake the walls of my room with its 8" driver, it could handle everything excellently with low and tight bass. Below are some important things I'd like to share with you:

- The JPS8 can easily reproduce bass under 40Hz. Running the Stereophile Test CD1, I can clearly "feel" the test tone at 35Hz. Very respectable for a subwoofer of this size and this price! That explains why the Lord of the Rings and the Matrix sound so good with this subwoofer. Also, the JPS8 is quite heavy so there is no vibration even at high volume.

- After the 1st week of using (which is about 40+ hrs), the JPS8 sounded much better. The bass it reproduced became fuller and more solid. It's not that I got used to the sound after 1 wk and then it became much better to my ears. Actually, all my dts movies sound more impact and even my night-time FM music at low volume still give me tighter bass after the "break-in".

- I did several experiments on the loudness control setting and found that the 12 o'clock position would give you very natural bass for classical music. If you mainly watch DVD movies and listen to rock and pop music, set the loudness control to the 3 o'clock position and use the subwoofer level control on the receiver to balance the subwoofer loudness relative to the rest of the speaker system. The 3 o'clock position would give you more punch for movies and rock/pop music.

- I replaced the original fabric grill with an 8" 2-piece steel grill from partsexpress.com . This gives the JPS8 a cool look and at the same time, a better protection for the driver. The part # is 260-424 and it's about $6.90. (I'm not working for PE, just FYI in case you're interested).

- I did have the f@rt problem. It f@rted about 10min after there was no low frequency signal sent to it. Even worse, I love to listen to music at night at low level, it thought that there was no signal because the level was too low so it f@rted once every 10 minutes or so. I couldn't stand this uneducated behavior so I contacted Audiovox/Jensen customer service techs via email. They sent me a reply email the next day and told me to remove the amp from the JPS8 and send only the amp back to them for service. Ten days later from the day I sent the amp to them, the amp came back to me and it's worked flawlessly ever since. No more f@rt!
